I bought a new 3.90 diff off a forum member but it had been sitting around for a while in his garage and has some dirt and contamination inside. How should I flush it out? My current options are:
1. Use Kerosene and pour it through the diff
2. Use a mixture of 50/50 kerosene and oil and pour it through the diff
3. Clean it up as best as possible and install it. Then change the diff fluid after 10 and 50miles.
I would go to pep boys they have a cleaner for electrical parts cleaner. I have used this cleaner on heads before and the oil just comes right off. Also dries by air within seconds and leaves no residue.
I use brake parts cleaner on my Jeep gear boxes and it works great. Comes in spray cans and is available at any auto parts store.
Yeah.. BPC is awesome! I dont know why I didnt think of it... we use it on everything. I rebuilt a 4.3 Chevy not long ago and cleaned out the entire block with it... we used a TON of it cleaning on my heads/cam swap..
