Default A4 shift question at WOT

Been tinkering around with the quality of the shifts in my '04 coupe with the Predator hand-held.

I increased the pressure and decreased the delay between shifts.

So now, at anything BUT full throttle, the shifts are quick, crisp and firm. However, the 1-2 shift at WOT is almost like granny-shifting a manual shifter.....it releases from first gear....hesitates for a second, then slams into second gear.

Is this what's considered to be "normal" or do I have a problem with the tranny already?

That does not sound good, your transmission may be failing. Put your WOT shift pressure at +10, PT shift pressure +5, and shift time to -5. If it doesn't shift good there, I would drain/replace the trans fluid and inspect it.

Good Luck,

I say return it back to the stock program and see if it goes away...it may be the program tinkering you did to cause this. my A4 shifts firm in every gear at WOT and I have a stock tune in my 97. Of course the OD is a LOT more lax about it but if you punch it, even in OD it will break 2nd gear loose...thats pretty firm if you ask me...

Did it do this prior to the tuning you did?

No, it didn't. Prior to the tuning, the shifts were typical GM soft (almost to the point of being sloppy), but no hint of any hesitation or slippage.

As I said, at any point UNDER wide open throttle, the shifts are perfect....at WOT the 1-2 shift is like a manual shifter, that lets off the gas, pushes the clutch in, and THEN shifts it into second gear and reapplies the gas. Granny-shifting I used to call it.

At the suggestion of another poster, I am going to put it back to the factory settings and do it over again, in the event I did something backasswards during the first attempt.
