After the joys of my clutch install a couple of weeks back. I thought i was finally gonna get back to my daily driver Vette. Once I got about 300 miles on the new clutch, I started running it harder.
Now the engine has started knocking really bad. It doesnt do it until its warmed up. Then it will have a slight tick at idle and get VERY loud between 2500 and 3000 RPM, definately directly proportionate to engine speed. It does it regardless of whether the car is in gear or not, moving or not. Its not a rattle, definetly a metal on metal slap.
The car has 80k miles on it (I bought it at 74k). Fortunately I forked out the cash for an extended drivetrain warranty Anyone have dealings with 3rd party warranty companies ?
Just looking for thoughts and ideas on what it could be..and what I"m looking at to have it fixed.
Sometimes you get lucky and it's just a bad exhaust leak. I have had a few cars come into our shop with bad "knocks" thinking the worst and it ended very good, with a exhaust leak. Other times it was bad like a rod bearing out. Bring it to your local GM dealership and have them look at it.
We have experience w/ 3rd party warranty companies. Check the fine print. Any mods can void it...including different rims.
Well I've only had the car for 6k miles (2nd owner). And as far as they are concerned I havent done anything but drive it on weekends and to meets All the mods on it, were on it when I bought it and purchased the warranty Thats all they need to know.
This is the 3rd or 4th 'extended warranty' I've purchased with a car...and I've yet to collect on one, so I'm due.
