Small clunking noise just before I stop??
I have a 2002 vert with 65K on it. It is my daily driver. I have noticed a slight clunking noise which seems to be coming from the mid to back end of the car. It does not do it all the time. Only happens once in a while if I am coasting at low speed (under 10mph) to a stop and start applying the brakes. I also notice it as I just start to accelerate. Again, I only hear this one after I have heard the clunk on the stop. Any ideas?

I had my control arms (I think that it is what they are called) replaced in the rear and it solved the problem. It could be axle splines that need to be lubed. I told my dealer this at the time and instead of an easy fix they went and replaced the whole thing. Go figure.

I just had something similar fixed on my 2002. The rear axle spindle nut on the drivers side was not at the correct torque spec. A buddy of mine decided to check the torque on his 2001 Z06 and found his drivers side nut about 5lbs below spec. The nut is a 34mm (you will need a deep socket) and the torque spec is 118lbs/ft.
