Anyone ever seen a block crack behind the liner but not have the liner cracked?
Another oddity was that this liner was dropped down.... at least several thousands below the deck. I thought that these "cast in place" pieces could not do that.
Nope. Cracked the #7 liner in an LS1 block in 2003 at 9psi, from the stock pistons trying to compress pieces of ring landing in the quench area. The pistons twisted on their pins, and the pressure from the piston skirt cracked the cylinder wall.
Cracked the #3 liner in an LS6 block last month, even though the that one piston was undamaged.
