Default New starter <3mo old going bad?

Just wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I had a new GM starter installed 3 mo ago. Now I had a charge system fault and had to replace my alternator and battery a few days ago. However, now the voltage reads good on my DIC, but every other turn of the key to start the car results in the dreaded "click" noise. My local mechanic said I probably have a dud starter despite it being new. Anyone else ever had this happen? I'm going to have my guy recheck the wiring connections again on Monday too.

All is good now. Turned out the starter was bad due to a short from a wire. It may have toasted my altenator as well which was replaced at the same time.
