i have been noticing a vibration when i step on the brake over the last month or so..... i was thinking i needed an alignment because of just putting on new tires...... well i was out today and caught a rattle coming from the rear ..... when i got home i jacked up the back end and the passenger side tire seems to have some wobble in it... like maybe a 1/4" whats it sound like and how hard to repair and how much $$ ..... thanks.....
Sounds like a bent (out of round) wheel...... Find someone in your area who has Hunter roadforce balance equip. and get their diagnosis on your problem........
Sounds like bad bearings in the rear hub. The entire hub will have to be replaced. You can do the job, Auto Zone has hubs for in the area of $200, I think. That's just a ballpark figure, I've never actually purchased one. Others may know the actual price.

Since you just put on new tires, make SURE the lugnuts are tight (100 ft/lb torque). If they are, the wheel bearing hub assembly may be bad, but at this point you should be hearing roaring noises from this area when driving. When you say the car was vibrating when braking, that sounds like pulsating (warped) brake rotors. That can be caused by not torquing or mis-torquing the lugnuts when tires were put on. A wheel alignment does not cause or cure vibrations directly, it ONLY changes wheel angles (camber caster and toe)
You may want to take a look at your rear tie rods. I had to do the ones in my 2000 at 48,000. Not a big job but you have to have it alined when your done
