anyone know if the oxygen sensors that thread into the exhaust manifolds are the same on a 97, 98 and 99 LS1, A4 ??
Yes they are the same, if you cannot find them local for a good price go to http://www.oxygensensors.com/ they normally have cheaper prices.
Do not replace just one, if its the front buy both for it you only do 1 then it would function better and older one would be slower and fool the PCM as what the AFR is on both sides.
When installing leave the cable unplugged, install O2s into exhaust and only then wiring cable connectors to car's wiring loom.
If you do it the other way around you can crimp the wires and O2 then looses the outside reference air it requires which is done within the special wires they use.
I installed a set of 2000 sensors in my 97. they worked fine, but the front sensor wires are shorter on a 2000. I had to rework them so they didn't protrude from the heat shield.
