Install is going pretty well. Removed hood, cooling, and steering system (pulled rack out completely) Saturday. Had company all day Sunday. Pulled water-pump, intake, emissions and fuel Monday evening. Cleared headers / collectors, removed dipstick, valvetrain, and pulled heads last night. FEDEX'd PCM to TSP this morning. I have to admit; I'm having a blast...I love this stuff!!! I hope everybody is having a great day. I'll try to get some pics up.

228/228? are you kidding me? i think my grandmother has the one in her buick century. j/k. post some pics of the install and keep us updated as to any tips you may have. good luck
Cowpunk, congratulations. It is an interesting job. I've done mine 3 times now. I don't know if you are using head bolts or studs, but take a lot of extra time to thoroughly clean the bolt holes of coolant and dirt. I like JMX's idea on www.ls1howto.com of grinding an old head bolt and using it as a tap. There can be NO coolant left in the holes when you insert the new bolts or studs. Good Luck...
My car goes in the shop next week for a Head/Cam Package. Gonna have 460 to 470RWHP. I've been waiting for my heads for about a month now. I can't wait.
Congrats!! I'm wanting to do a H/C next spring with about the same size cam instead of 114 wanting to do a 112 lsa. Have you heard one like you're putting in?? Wondering what kind of lope it has. I really want mine to have a lope to it, just love that sound.

I printed a couple of copies of JMX's How to Article. I read section before and after job segments. I have and use the GM manuals, but they really lack the specificity of the the single job guide. Last evening I cleaned deck (BTW: you cannot buy a plastic ice scraper in So/Central GA). I had too use conventional gasket material removers scrapers/plastic cleaning discs). I took my time (over 20 minutes per side) and really kept a close watch on tool angles. Deck is very, very clean, lighty swirled with only a few very miniscule nicks. Used my 3" cut-off tool to fashion tap to clean bolt holes. However, I used wet / dry shop vac to evacuate as much coolant as possible when water pump was still on. Then, before I broke any head bolts loose I vac'd it again at W/P and block passages. I had no water in cylinders when heads were lifted!!! Paper towels were barely moist at tips. Made a step down vac hose to fit bolt holes to remove as much gasket material and moisture as possible. Tap was then completely seated and came back pretty darn clean and 90% dry. Will blow out this evening before I pull H-balancer and cam.
Finished install 10/03 (monday evening). Did pre-start and fired it up. Sounded mean as hell. However, before I finished the first warm-up, I noticed huge coolant leak from coming from driver's side near firewall. I thought I may have broken a heater hose pipe. However, you guys aren't going to believe the Sh***y luck: the freeze plug on the head I choose to put on the driver's side was not seated properly. I had someone crank the car and I put my hand back on the freeze plug and coolant was literally shooting out. My Vendor has already shipped a replacement head w/ a refund for R&R on head. Can't wait to drive this set-up, geez it sounds awesome!!! I'm going to post seperate for any short-cuts on left side cylinder head R&R.
had the same with a leaky freeze plug, luckily I put the leaky 1 on the right front ,if I put that on the left would been a bitch to change on the back.

luck of the draw. Just came inside for the evening. Got P/S bracket out the the way and intake off. I'll do exhaust tomorrow, then evac as much water as possible. Maybe pull head if I can get a tracking#
New head came in Friday. Had to go to Atlanta all day Saturday for family gathering. Started yesterday at 8:00am, fired it up at 1:00 pm. I kept it at or below 4000 to 4200 RPM. Acceleration at around 2500 in first or second is outright explosive. It's still seaching and learning for new Idle parameters, but only had two or three stalls. Even though I had a defective part that cost me a week, I still had a blast. I love this stuff!!!
