chronic SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
The message goes away with a simple press of the reset button. However, it not only gets annoying, but makes me wonder what is causing this.
Got the codes from the 'puter and they were:
10-PCM P0106 HC
BO-RFA U1000 HC
I couldn't find the first one and the second one didn't seem to make much sense anyway.
Are these codes causing the message SERVICE VEHICLE SOON to come on, or is there the possibility that something else causes the message?
FYI, here's the lowdown on what's been done to my car:
- 2004, A4 coupe, with shift kit.
- Big fat camshaft
- PP 5.3 heads
- Dynatech headers w/off road pipes
- Vararam
- Ported TB.
I am thinking that the problem is related to the cam install, because I had some mods done prior and didn't get the message. However, had the cam put in, and the message has been chronic since say one of the cam install.
A question for those who've modified their engines with similar setups: Do you ever completely get rid of chronic error messages on the DIC? Is it something that you get used to after a while?
Any other insight would be appreciated.
Thanks agian,

My 98 service manual does not list your first code either, but I suspect that your MY service manual will. The U1000 code is a comm class 2 error and it indicates a few interesting things.
1) The RFA system did not "learn" a SOH (State of Health) message and recognition code from : BCM, IPC or PCM
2) This DTC can only set when the ignition is first turned ON
3) Condition must be present for 5 seconds
4) "Action Taken When the DTC Sets":
a) Stores a DTC U1000 in the RFA system
b) Will substitute default values for certain parameters
c) No driver warning message will be displayed for this DTC
That's all my 98 service manual tells me. Good Luck
I have since found a little bit more about the P0106 message...stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure. Some people have found that a clogged exhaust has generated this message. The reasoning is that the pressure builds up to the intake manifold.
Whelp, since I have no cats, headers and a Borla exhaust, I doubt is has to do with an exhaust clog. However, the cam does come to mind again. At low idle, there simply may not be enough velocity and scavenging going on - thus causing something to not read correctly in the manifold.
Keep in mind though, I am claiming a "Schultz" with this one: "I know nothing !".

Normally can be due to ported TB and not properly tuning the PCM
