oh im sorry, next time i wont mention your inability to read what you write before you post it...brake master cylinder != clutch master cylinder. i guess it only took you half a page to figure that out though
im done with this thread unless the original poster chimes in with new info and wants advice, get lost
Enough quibling already. Lets keep this thread focused on this guys problem. He asked a legitimate question and needs some help.
So did you check the fuse? Did you try shoving the shifter into reverse really hard? If all the other gears shift correctly, I do not think it is the clutch slave. But how do you know if the others shift OK, if you can not drive the car? I have never heard of the brake master issue, so I would do that has a last resort. Here is what I would check:
1) reverse lockout solenoid
2) reverse lockout solenoid fuse
3) transmission
4) clutch
5) ??????
Sorry all for not updating in timely fashion. I took my car out this morning to drop it off at the dealer. I had to push it out of the garage, since it wouldn't go in reverse. Also, on the way to the dealer, couple of times I had a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd and then 3rd to 4th. I am not sure what was that all about. Anyway, as soon as I entered the dealership and parked the car, I tried one last time to shift into reverse and it worked this time. Furthermore, now I am also getting loud sound out of my shifter at idle and as soon as I press the clutch it goes away. I talked to the machanic and told him everything that was wrong and in his opinion its the Slave Cylinder that causing all this. He will call me back with update as soon as he gets to it. I installed the new Aussi clutch about 2 months back and I hope they didn't mess something putting it back together. Anyway, thanks to all your help and comments. Please let me know if there is anything else I can have them replaced while they have the trany out. Is there a after market Slave Cylinder available?
If you didn't replace them when you got the clutch, then you should install a new slave/throwout bearing, new pilot bearing and new master cylinder. Just use the Z06 stuff.
It really sounds like you might have an install problem. Things usually fail for a reason. The loud sound from the shifter could be the throwout bearing. It will sound like a buzzing rattling sound. Who did your clutch install?
I would go with either or both the slave cylinder or the pilot bearing. I heard a loud grinding sound when ever i left out my clutch or tried to modulate it a little. So I went out and said screw it since the slave is bad may as well change the clutch too. So I bought the LS7 clutch and flywheel and the LS1 slave. Well I pulled the whole damn thing apart to find the pilot bearing was in f'in peices.
Well I just rambled for a while... In the end go out and get a new slave and pilot bearing.
Quick question does any one have a pic or location of the reverse lock out solenoid?
I started my car this morning and couldn't put it in reverse to back it out. All other gears work but reverse. Also, it only does that when the car is started. I can put it in reverse when the engine if off. Please advise. Thanks
Well, OK, then, but it wasn't clear from the first post.
Then with all this talk about brake master cylinders, and bleedin' an all, I's gots toos thinkin', do da man has the foots on de brake when he trahs to shifts?
So, if it is an MN6, with no other synchro type problems, I guess we're back to the put it in another gear, move forward, then try reverse, then try the "half clutch method," etc.
If there have been other problems, then maybe it's time to call a tow truck with a reverse gear that works.
On mine, I let the clutch out a tad in first and then go for reverse.
Getting the gears turning helps.
Probably not your situation, but I thought I would put in my $.02.
