Hi all, It's time to replace a wheel sensor. I have a 2000 Conv. The 97-00 wheel sensors are different than the 01 and newer. My question is: Why can't the newer sensors be used in the older applications? I'm looking more for facts, not speculations. Thanks
It's not an issue of the sensors fitting in the wheel or anything like that. It's that the new (post 2000) vette computers are not designed to work with the older type sensor. The new sensors (01-04) cost about a third the price of the 97-00 sensor so there is obviously some major design changes in the new sensor. Eventually the older sensors will probably not be available as more and more batteries go dead.

I agree , the issue is that the receiver that is in the car is different for the different years of sensors. In otherwords, a 2001 receiver can't communicate with a 2000 sensor.........
I've been checking the catalogues for sensors...Ecklers only shows one part number for 97-04 Corvettes, and the picture is of an older style sensor. I even went through the checkout process, and was never asked what year it was for..? I guess the only way to find out for sure is to try it myself. A friend has a 2003 sensor not being used, I'll lay it on the wheel or brake hub and see if it learns. Thanks for the replys.
