Skip Shift Eliminator
Absolute first post. This has probably been covered 2000 times, but I couldn't figure out how to search the forum. Just got my sweetheart and want to do away with the stupid 1-4 skip shift. (Is it too much to be allowed to play with all the gears I paid for?) Anyone have experience with the West Coast Corvettes plug in device or some other way to do this?
Welcome to the forum! I got a skip shift from LAPD and it works just as advertised. I know that you can aviod the skip shift by keeping up the RPM's in first but the very few times that it kicked in it was a real PITA. As for WCC, I have ordered from them also and they are very good to work with IMO.
If you really want it, don't pay over $30. It is just a resistor that tricks the computer into think the selonoid has engaged. The light will still come on, but the lock will not come up.
Off the top of my head I do not know the 50 cent resistor value, maybe some will chime in.
The 30 bucks, gets you a weather proof plug, that is all, so If you can make your own, do it.
I really thought about doing the resistor myself, but I ended up ordering one from MidAmerica, something like $17. Traffic is the only time when I have the stupid cags activate, and that seems to be the most dangerous time for it to!
edit: The website shows a Z28, but the resistor is basically the same install on the C5.
The skip shift eliminator was my first mod as well as the skip shift caught me a few times in parking lots when I wasn't expecting it. I bought mine from Ecklers for about $20. Personally, I think you can't go wrong with any brand. This is a really simple mod.
Three factors to make the light come on rpm, speed, and throttle position. I have not seen that light in 4 years, once you get use to your car you will forget its even there.
