Default Heads up Windshield

Anybody know the cost of a Windshield for a 2000 FRC with Heads Up Display? I'm getting all different prices. Anything to be wary of?

my '01 only has 36k miles and the hud windshield is pitted horrible. I've seen prices ranging from $600 - $1200. After finding out the price I decided it wasn't pitted too bad.

I just got a price of $370 installed. I specified HUD. They said that is correct model. Safelight located right near me. Lifetime guarantee etc.?
Does that sound right???

No, it doesn't. The non-HUD windshield will work fine and sounds like what they quoted, but there is no way they are getting a HUD windshield from GM and installing it for that..

Am I right in assuming that the windshield must be the HUD model to work? Or will a non HUD work but the display will not be GOOD?

Non HUD windshield will work fine...ppl who convert their cars to HUD do not change the windshields and do not have problems seeing theirs. I have HEARD that it is not quite as bright but have no way to confirm this.

Default HUD on Non HUD Cars

I upgraded my FRC with a HUD unit last year.

I have a stock non HUD w/shield. I have no problems even on bright days.

I compared my HUD upgraded 01 Z06 with factory non-HUD windshield with my friends 99 coupe factory HUD and could not tell any difference day or night. Same brightness, sharpness, color, size....

The factory windshield I have seen have a small label in the bottom right corner that gives the specs of the glass. The factory HUD cars that I have looked at has "HUD" in that label, my 01 Z06 does not have HUD in the label. I have no idea if aftermarket glass has that marking or not. Or even if all factory glass has the marking. Maybe some people with factory HUDs will look at theirs and chime in.

Just had mine replaced $1008. They said the non-HUD was about $200 less.

Had mine replaced about 2 months ago. $1500 for a 2000FRC with HUD. I'm glad I have zero deductable glass coverage.

GMpartsdirect.com:

HUD: their price: $794.03 retail: ~$1300
nonHUD: their price: 271.42 retila: ~$450

but they don't ship front windshields so these prices are pretty useless, and I have no idea how much install/shipping goes for on windshields.

I bought a windshield from them, set it in turned on HUD and it was all blury it even had the HUD part #. When to Speedy Glass the one they put in was perfect. Call Autobahn explained the whole deal, they refunded all my money they were real good about it, they didn't want the glass back. So there must be some diff. with the two windshields.

the difference between a HUD and non HUD windshield lies solely with the inner layer (the material sandwiched between the outer and inner layer of glass).

On the non HUD, this layer is uniform in thickness.

On the HUD windshield - the inner layer material is not of uniform thickness. This was done to reduce ther "paralax" effect caused by the windshields two glass layers.

But many have reported here that the non-HUD windshield works well enough.
