my cars rear end leaks a few drobs a night and I am wondering waht you guys recommend to do, take it to the dealer because it is still under warrenty or fix it myself? i hate the thought of some porter driving the **** out of the car and also hate the thought of me spending my only day off fixing it.
If its under warrenty why wouldnt you take it to the dealer. Its an expensive and cumbersome repair. the guys at the dealership have alot other cars they are trashing, like C6's ect ect... BTW, chevy stealerships, at least the ones I have dealt with, have always been very good to my car. They always store it inside, wash it after sirvice etc etc.... Now I cant say much about the actual work they do but
Use your warranty to get it fixed. Mine was leaking due to a cracked diff housing - not an easy fix! The crack was on top of the case by the vent and took a sharp, experienced mechanic to diagnose it and write it up correctly.
Good luck...Bill
it is a one or two hour fix, get the o-ring and axle seal, you will probably need to heat the stud to remove prior to removing the axle cover
pn--88996703 and 89047953, this are the updated gm parts
another twist--sometimes the seals don't do the fix and the side cover is suspect, i've read on the forum that the side cover can get tweaked from assy at the factory(sounds like urban legend or bs to me)
i've done the fix w/ the above mentioned seals and have had no problem
Mine seems to be leaking from the L2015 piece you have marked, not the shafts. I am going to take a gander at it monday when ! am lowering it. have you heard of this plate leaking?
definately dealer but one that has a corvette certified mechanic. They had to take the whole rear end out of my car! Not a job for the shade tree in the back yard!

What he said -- unless you feel comfortable dropping the entire rear end out of the car. Make sure the branch is strong enough if you decide to do this yourself.
