I have had my 04 Vette back 4 times for the engine light. They tell me the cap is loose. I have been putting gas caps on for 30 years and should know how to do it.
Anyone having problems with the cap coming loose during driving?
Warrenty only covers this 2 times / year and after that you have to pay to have the code cleared?
I also bought an AutoTap device to read and clear the code myself after getting tired of taking it back to the dealer.
Auto tap is not needed to clear codes. Go to" other" at top of this page, click on tech tips, oh hell just follow this link https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=25&TopicID=1 I would think that since the problem keeps coming back that you have a defective gas cap.Cant imagine why the dealer hasn't figured this out.Yes I can, dealers in most cases are about as useful as **** on a boar hog.Excuse my language but thats an old Texas saying that seems more than fitting in this case.Sadly only one dealership in ten has a Corvette technician worth a damn. That estimate may be high.If you are a hot rodder or diyer like many of us, the auto tap software will be a handy tool to have in the future.
I had the same problem with an Acura RL that I owned. The check engine would come on if I tried to add any more fuel after the gas pump had automatically stopped. It didn't like to be overfilled.
I would think a new gas cap would be an inexpensive fix! Good Luck
I have an '04 coupe that had a problem with a frequently loose gas cap. Dealer ordered & installed a new one. The previous cap was loose at every fillup -- the new cap looks the same but stays tight. If you or your dealer installs a new cap and you clear the code per the above post, you should have no further problem with it.

2004 Coupe for 1 1/2 years and 29,000 miles, no problem. Buy the gas filler Bib while at Carlisle this year. Great idea, right? Wrooooong. 4 days after the install (and I use that word loosely) I get a check engine light. Dump the code P0455, run the diagnostic checklist and get to "loose gas cap". I say NFW, how could my gas cap be loose.
Well guess what, the bib attaches around the short section of filler pipe in the fuel filler well. Apparently, when I put the cap on after getting gas, the bib got caught in the cap threads and even though it clicked, it was loose enough to cause a problem. Pulled the Bib, threw it in the garbage (only $10) and no code
Have you had the dealer check the sensor in the fuel filler neck? I had this same problem with my 1996 Explorer, I noticed the Check Engine light right after a fill-up. Dealer replaced the sensor under warranty and haven't had the problem since (almost 9 years).

I added the boldface type for emphasis. This is a common mistake. DO NOT fill your car beyond the automatic shut off. The system is calibrated for that fuel level. I used to overfill frequently until I started having some weird fuel readings and saw something posted here that attributed the problem to overfilling. I stopped the practice and no more weird fuel readings!
Thanks for the tips.
A little info will help me when I go back to the dealer to discuss.
The dealer just wants to write it off as a loose cap. I believe there is more to it than that such as a bad sensor or cap. They replaced the cap once but did not correct the problem.
Also, the Autotap device worked great. I would recommend it.
Also, I am new to this site but think it is great. Will be back often.
