Just got off the freeway....SERVICE ABS came on...Reduce engine speed......Car shuts off........?????? Will crank, but wont start. I tried retreiving the codes to no avail....OPTIONS...LANGUAGE.....OPTIONS. .....FUEL 4X's....Nothing!
Dam, Snakekiller, where to start? I assume you know how to retrieve the codes, right? If so, is it an A4 with the Column Lock recall performed? How's the battery? Did you hit a bump that might have shook a weatherpak connector loose?

Did you get it started or leave it?

Couldn't retreive the codes....so I had it towed 1 BLOCK! to my house...... The recall was performed...Weatherpak connector?????
Yea, weatherpak connectors are the weather tight connections scattered through out the car. Some what similar to compuetr connectors, in that they are rectgular and connect 2 ends of a wire harness. Typical paks that get loose are the EBTCM (either by the differential, early C5,(like our 98's) or under the hood, later C5's) They can seem fine, but sometimes it's nothing more than to disconnect and then reconnect the 2 halves.

Sounds good...I'm going to check it out tommorrow...For some reason or another...the codes wouldn't come up.....Somebody was mentioning to change the edit back to stock.......??????

Service ABS warning will not cause reduced power but reduced power will cause the service ABS warning, so I think you have more of an engine problem than a brake problem.
I'll check it out when I get home.....I tried retreiving the codes after leaving the battery disconnected all night....and still the same thing....Nothing...
Right when I turn the key on the on position.....Reduce Engine Power light comes on along with the service ABS crap....I'm going tclean all connections by the diff...and see what happens....For some reason I have a feeling that thats the problem....I'm not going to worry about the codes until this thing fires up...1st problem with this car in 6 years...I'm sure its something minor...
You sure you can't pull the codes? Turn key to ON, but don't start it, then hold the options button and press the fuel button 3 times, I think?
If the DIC mesage is immediately displayed, hit CLEAR/RESET first then try to access the codes.

Yep...I turned it on the On position...cleared DIC messages....held the Options button down while pressing the fuel button 4 times = NOTHING..
I'm going to remove the LS1 edit and put it back to stock.......Also get underneath the car and see what might of came loose...clean the connectors to the diff and whatever else that has a connection...
There's a TSB that came out covering the 97 & 98 model years that addressed problems with the TAC Module that would put the car in the reduced engine power mode.

The TAC (Throttle Activation Control) module is located behind the right front wheel fender well. There is a panel that can be removed for access. I had to replace ours some time ago and I got it from Fichtners at a reduced price, if you talk to Bob and tell him you are from the Forum. I got the reduce engine power several times before I had to replace it. It has been nearly a year now and I have had no trouble since. Thanks to Bill Curlee for his help.
