Rather than typing it again as i posted it int he Z06 section i drove the car at Atlanta motor speedway for 20 laps today most of the time at 4000-6500 rpms and when not having the pedal floored it was high rpm light load aroud 3500-4500. About 70% of the 20 laps was wide open driving up in the 5000-6500 area.
Anyway i waited 4 hours and checked my oil. I already know shes a burner (2001 Z06) but it was not bad enought (1 quart / ~1000-1200 miles) to have to go throught he oil consumption test and tear my engine apart.
Anyway i used about 1/4 quart today at the track in those 20 laps and very spritied driving down to the track and back but that was only 30 miles each way.
What is normal at the track?? Is it tiem to just get it re-ringed or would any LS6 / LS1 use some under those conditions?? I really don't want the hassle of tearing her down but is this usage way out of hand? Obviously these are not anywhere near normal driving conditions
Mine does not use a drop no matter how hard I run it. Lots of The LS-1 and LS-2 cars do use oil especially at high revs. I guess its like piston slap. I have it on my car but others don't.
I good friend of mine with a Speedway White 01 Z06 goes through oil much faster at the track than my 02 Coupe. The back of his car is covered with an oily residue after a day.

Is my usage ok though?? I have no oil film but i did use about 1/5 - 1/4 quart today
I have a 97 and two days of hard road track use it will eat a quart of oil. On the street it doesn't use a drop. I think it gets sucked through the PCV system?
Behind the throttle body plate is pretty dry on my car. I think its the rings as 2001's are known for.
I have a real debate on my hands. Do i just add a quart as needed (Every 6-8 weeks if i drive semi aggresive). Or do i let them tear my engine down and fix it and deal with the whole hassle of oil consumption tests, dealers scratching my car etc.
What do you guys think?? If there any harm to leaving it alone and can it get worse down the road??
I just ran my 98 C5 at Sears Point track last Thursday. All together probably about 30 to 40 (2.5 mile) laps at high rpm, up & down shifting, accelerations around 5500 to 6000 rpm most of the time. I have an AMG catch can. I burned thru about 1/2 quart not counting about an ounce or two that got caught in my catch can. Normal city driving, I'll burn a quart about every couple thousand miles.

Listen,
Does your car burn oil during normal/spirted driving? Normal high RPMs normal Low RPMs.
Dont use days at the track as a gauge.
If it doesnt burn between oil changed, leave it alone. If hit burns a quart every 3500 miles, and you got on the car alot, leave it alone. If it burns more than that, have a burn test done at the dealer.
I had mine re-ringed at 12,500 miles. Didnt burn a drop afterwards. Then I added the cam, and it started burning a little. Ill be adding heads over the winter, and im sure it will burn a little more because Ill be driving it a little harder in the upper RPM range. I wont be killing it, But Ill be have more fun with it. The 2001s and below LS1/6 burn some oil in the upper RPM range. If it's alot of oil during street use, yes get it re-ring. If it burns some at the track, dont go extreme because it will burn some.
I had a rering @3,300 miles and do not burn enough to notice on the street. In an hour of track time burn a quart. That is not a worry to me and is sorta normal from what others say.
