A Friend Of Mine Did This On His Late Model Chev Pick-up And Burned Out His Headlight Switch. His Mechanic Told Him It Was To Much Of A Draw With Both Lamps On At The Same Time. Just A Word Of Caution......jc

You're probably working on being able to see at night...lol. The headlights on the C5 are not very good. Good luck!

There is a kit available. Painless wiring has a kit for the 9005/9006 lighting. You can order it from summitracing.com. I have it on my 94 suburban and it works fine. They also carry a headlight booster kit. I'm assuming this kit supplies the voltage straight from the battery instead of the batt and thru the headlight switch. I plan to buy this kit to see if it works on my truck before I buy it for my vert. Both kits are not expensive. Goodluck.

I know several of the Corvette vendors (Eckler's, etc) sell relay kits that will do this.

I installed a relay, tapped a hot wire from the low beam and ran power to it from the battery.

I don't know if this will work in our C5's but on my DD, 94 Ford Probe GT (which also has popups), if I first turn on the low beams and then pull the headlight stalk lever BACK and hold it, both low AND high beams will illuminate. I always assumed this to be a glitch with the flash-to-pass feature...

If it works then you'd have to figure out a way to hold the stalk lever back while doing your work/testing

On a 2001 Z06, i'm running 35 watt HID low beams with stock wiriing and switch. If i get this kit from eckler's, and run a 50watt high beam HID setup, i should still be ok with stock wiring correct? As i understand all i would need to to is replace the fuse to allow a tiny bit more amperage draw. Total wattage would be 85Watts with both high and low beams on. The only problem is when the high beams are warming up it will draw more power but i dunno how much and for how long. Also same question but with 35 watt high beams. Any safer?

I've pm'ed him.

I've also decided to go with the 35 watt high beams instead. 50 watt wasnt worth the extra money.

So any other opinions?

I used to make kits to do this exact thing. Here's what you need.

Standard 12v relay (1)
12-gauge wire (approx 10 to 12 feet) Different colors to keep track of everything. (black, red, green, and brown)
Fuse link (1)
T-taps (2)
Pan head connectors (4)

Once you take the shroud off from around the headlight you will see several wires leading to the headlights. Each light should have a black ground and either a green or brown wire. I can't remember if green is high or low, but it's pretty easy to see which is which.

Find a place to mount the relay. I used the bolts that holds the fog light bracket in place. Use the black wire and wire the ground connection on the realy to a good ground.

Use the red wire and run a fused link from the battery to either the positive terminal on the battery or to the aux. power point right by the battery to the constant hot terminal on the relay.

Now, the two remaining terminals on the relay are the switch and the output. Run one wire (green or brown, which ever wire runs to the low beams) to the output side of the relay. Use the pan head connectors to connect the wire to the relay and a T-tap to connect to the wire on the headlight.

Finally run one wire from the high beam wire to the switch terminal on the relay. Again, use the pan head connector on the relay and a T-tap on the headlight wire.

Now run all the wires out of the way and enjoy. I ran this setup for almost a year and didn't have a single problem.
