HERK - Does the problem return after you stop and start your car, or does it seem to reset itself? What year is your C5? Did it just happen the one time? I have a similar problem with my 2001. There is a bulletin on a code issue in the ABS that can produce this symtom. If it's an 01 or eariler they may be able to simply reprogram it per the bulletin. If you can provide some more specifics maybe someone can respond. In my case, the symtoms were a bit different and the reprogram didn't help.
If you drive aggressivly without the traction control and you notice the service abs light comes on.....or the ABS indicator stays on....but after you turn the car of....it resets, but comes on agian later....= Potential problem! Mine would come on every so often...until it stayed on and tripped the reduced power circuit on the computer and killed the car...The part I had to replace form the dealership was $250.00....but has to be installed by a tech so you're computer could be reflashed...
Since you got it just last week, I assume you have at least a 30 day warranty. Have it checked. First, the TSB as mentioned above. Secondly, check your battery. If you are starting to lose voltage, or are developing a bad cell that could be the cause.
Another possible cause, may be a loose connector on the EBTCM. I believe on the MY2000, its under the hood.
Other potential suspects, could be the TAC (Throttle Acutator module). Expensive, but not something to attack first.
And just a thought, the Service Manual for a MY2000 should be in your library.
HTH,
Joe
And congratualtions on your Y2K! This is just a hiccup. Enjoy, and drive it like you stole it!
I'm having the same issue everytime out on the track lately.

I had some issuse with the ABS coming on when I was in COMP mode doing a burnout the last time I was at the track. I bled the brakes and got a new battery ( the latter for other reasons ). I will try and duplicate the situation again and see if the same thing happens.
the problem went away after i resarted the car.the car is a 2000 i just got it last week ,with only 2500 miles on it.its a m6.
Had the same thing happen on my '01 too... it just went away and then it happened again today... hopefully it goes away when I start the car next time...
