This afternoon I took the vette for a drive when when I hit my first red light, I took off like normal and the tranny spun for about 500 rpms like it was in netural then took off like normal. This is the 2nd time this month that it has done it. Once warm, it drives great. I have a built FLP 4 tranny and a Yank 3800 SS and have never had this happen before this month.
Can I be low on tranny fluid? Any recommendations on good A4 tranny fluid.
definately sounds like low fluid. I think tech tips has the procedure for checking and filling, but basically you lift it up level, get the "trany temp" up to 90-110 degrees and open the fill plug on the tranny. Fill it with Dexron III until it flows out. That's all. I was just under mine today checking it the level and it's a PITA but easy. It a good excuse to look around under the car for other problems or future mods.
If that's not the problem them Call FLP.
Just use plain old GM trans fluid. Chuck @FLP told me that's what they use and advised against using any synthetic stuff when they put mine in. It does sound like low trans fluid. Good Luck!
I have the same problem and I also have a built trans(RPM level 5 and a yank SS3600), when I take off from a dead stop some times I can feel something in the back of the car spin just for a split second, then the car takes off like normal, except mine does it warm or cold but not very often.
I kind of think it might be the torque converter just becuase the trans shifts so smoothly and the TC also jerks pretty hard when ever it locks up.
So I had my oil changed today and had them double check my transmission fluid and it was okay.

What do you guys think it is?
When I figure it out I will post the cause. I am using synthetic tranny fluid so I may switch to regular tranny fluid and see it that helps.

That may work for you. The reason most transmission builders such as FLP avoid synthetic fluid is due to the fact that synthetic fluid is very slippery and can cause the clutches to slip. It has been proven that the 4l60E need friction to shift properly.
