Default LS7 Crate Engine Arrives!

Hi All,
We received one of the first LS7 engines today. We are one of the allocated dealers to receive one. GM made 139 of them and we were lucky enough to receive one. I had already taken a 5,000 deposit on it a couple of months ago.

Just wanted to let you guys know they are starting to trickle in. I've talked to my GM rep several times about getting another, and we'll see. If I get another I will let everyone know. Hopefully our customer tells a little of his story and gives us some pics and HP ratings.

Gene

So what should a person expect to pay for a LS7 crate motor? Does anyone know what it would take to install it in a 02-A4 vert.?

Gene,

What's the cost out the door and what's needed to shoehorn it into a C5 (wiring, PCM, mounts etc.)????

I assume that since this is one of the first crate motors, that Mr. Gene will be the first at doing this motor swap.

I read a while ago it would be around $17k-$18k. So you could multiply the increased hp figure power by 100 and add that to the cost of an LS2.
I believe it is rated at 105hp and 105tq more - at the crank.
I'm interested in one of these with a new Z06 wrapped around it. Then maybe some turbo's?

this is a much better motor than the LS2 -- its dry sump among other things.

It doesn't come with the dry sump. SDPC and GM are working on a PCM "workaround" (crank sensor). FWIW.

The 402's are making about 450 rwhp with fairly mild cams for half the price. So basically they make about the same power with the price advantage heavily going to the LS2. Granted, the LS7 has a lot more potential....

Great heads up, Gene. Please do keep us informed about pricing and any typical conversion headaches. We are all interested in the C5 retro-fitting abilities of this amazing new engine.
