Default A4 Tranny Still Overheating

I am getting very frustrated trying to get this resolved.

Here is what we have:
- ~500 RWHP / 525 RWTQ (torque is straight line from 2000-4600 RPM's)
- FLP Level-V Tranny
- 3 disk Vigilante Torque Converter
- 3.42 Z06 rear
- Custom designed tranny cooler with fan (by Chuck @ FLP)
- PCM programmed to lock-up torque converter, to reduce stress on tranny (we made this change after our last run at Road Atlanta because the tranny still overheated)

Over the weekend we ran (pretty much full out) through the mountains with 4 crotch-rockets. We hung right with them, but after ~10 miles of this the tranny overheated.

Any ideas?

Is the tc staying locked up under power? What are your mainline psi readings? Have you done a cooler flow test? How much stall do you have?

It could be that something is slipping. Time to get your transmission rebuilt

90 percent of heat build up in a trans comes from the tc slipping. Hook up scanner and check the pid for tcc slipage rpm. If this is okay the only other things that come to mind, are cooler flow restriction high mainline psi or faulty temp sensor. How hot is the tranny getting?

I'm very curious to find out what the solution to this is. I'm planning to get an FLP tranny next year after my next set of mods. It would be good to know what to look out for.

Thanks...we will take a look at that. We are running Road Atlanta in December, so would like to resolve this.

Currently it gets to "Too Hot" which is 265 I think.

Originally the FLP tranny was great; we ran it alomst two years with zero problems. However, after we increased the RWTQ to 525, switched the rear to 3.42 & changed TC, the overheating problems started.

Your differential is getting too hot and heating the tranny. Call DRM for a diff cooler setup. And / or a larger radiator like DeWitts to reduce the heat better.

Programing the PCM for lockup at full throttle has taken care of all of our customers overheating problems. I don't like to do it because I think it's very stressfull on the trans. But it's the less of the two evils. 265 is way to hot. The temp senser is in the pan after its been through the cooler. Trans is probably running near 300. Please keep us informed on what you find out. We had three club members run an open road race two weeks ago with o overhating problems.
