Default Stronger Rear Differential

I just started drag racing (first time at the track yesterday), and I am now looking at getting a stronger rear diff, with 3.90's, but I dont know much of anything about them- anyone have any input? I was looking at LG's different stages, and im not sure which is right for me. The price difference between a Stage II and III is pretty hefty. Any input would be great!

I would recommend getting one from DTE. I am running both hardened shafts, the pinion support, the pre load springs and the brace. I started my car build up with the diff. I have 4.10s in it right now and luvin' it! Ordering a blower next week so I'll see how the stuff holds up. I've never heard of anyone breaking the DTE stuff, maybe once, but I think I remember Phil making it right for that person. I'm keeping the 4.10s until the stock clutch goes which probably won't be too long. Hell, maybe I'll keep 'em always, just gotta see how the car manages with them. If I do change the gears out I will also put in the new HD clutch pack from DTE as it was not available when I built up my diff. It will be a challenge to keep the tires hooked. That is part of the fun!

Cajundude mentioned preload springs in his reply. What are they?

Thanks for the replies

I can see the Stage III has a LOT more over the stage II, but is the Stage II still a lot better over stock? Does the stage II still have any weak links?

No couplers, but an entire HD driveshaft instead. Details will follow on that later.

*Any* model of our custom, hand-built, HD built differentials are a major leap in durability/performance over a production line stock unit.

Let us know how well you do on changing gears with a blower & the 4.10 gears i wouldnt be a bit surprised if you went constantly hitting the rev limiter ,the boost will kick in @ 3k on most centrifugal blowers & off idle on the Kenny Belle & magnuson .I had a vortech on my car & the 3.42s were plenty for gears & ya it went to the rev limiter very quick btw i ran a level 4 Flp trans

You are right, it is too much gear but I have them in already. I will change them for 3.42s or 3:15s when the stock clutch goes. I am 95% sure that I will be going TT now.
