Default Tunnel Plate

Can the factory tunnel plate be removed without taking the stock exhaust off of the car. Can the reinforced plate (abs of Steel) be installed in the same manner or do you have to remove the exhaust.

Thanks

I had one put on my vert and I don't see how you could do the job without dropping the exhaust. It's so tight under there and there are 32 bolts to remove and put back in.

How thick is it and does it bolt up with no mods? Also, how does it compare price-wise with the Elite plate?

No Mods - it bolted right up. It's about .200" 3/16' thick. I think I paid about $50-60 from my Chevy parts guy.

Ok time for the noob question. Why add the weight of an added plate to the car?

Stiffens the body / frame of the vehicle to improve traction / handling.

Along with stiffening the structure of the car, which will lessen any creaking you may have and improve the handling, it will also reduce heat and noise through the console into the interior.

This would be a savings if the info pans out. I just e-mailed Gene @ Fred Beans to give me a price and part #. I will post info here as soon as he responds.

Keep in mind the stock C6 plate is only 1/8" thick aluminum and is not ceramic coated. Without the coating, it may actually increase console temperatures by retaining more heat from the exhaust.

Hey Roadrace65 Have you noticed this extra heating up issue? Have not heard of this problem with the C-6 guys i've talked to.
