I need some help!!! My shifter will not go into gear. It has been a little challenging lately (Sticking every once in a while in park), but this morning when I was trying to go to work the shifter would not go into gear at all. I had to take the entire consol apart to get the shifter boot off and look at the mechanism. Nothing looked broken, but when I pushed the button down it would no let the shifter into the gate to select gears. What is wrong? I noticed that the mechanism is all plastic, is it possible it could be wearing out? My car does have over 100K, but outside of this all is good. Any help would be great!!!

Not sure how to test it, but it could be the brake-shifter interlock. If the car doesn't think the brake is depressed, it won't let you shift out of park.
When I get out of work I will look for the lock solenoid. But I did notice that while I was trying to put the car in gear the DIC message did not have the apply break befor shifting message. Since It did not say the message the system is at lease thinking that it is released.
I am stumped. Has anyone else herd of this issue before?
Yea. It's quite common(not like column lock ) Mine would stop
working with temp change. I simply removed it. All it does it prevent
you from shifting out of park without stepping on the brake.
The biggest pain is that you have to remove most of your center
console glove box and radio/heat/ac trim to gain access to the
shifter area.
and although it soudns bad and u feel bad doing it, this has been discussed over on C5 general so im not the only one that has done it, but when it sticks, grab a heavy hardback book or your fist and just whack the shifter on top. for some reason it free's up whatever and works again. sometimes it comes back, although after mine doing it twice it hasnt done it in over a year...knock on wood.
Looks like I have a new weekend project, removing this solenoid. I hate it when something is wrong with my car. I had to drive my boss to a meeting today with the car 1/2 apart because of this issue. That sucks...
If I remove the solenoid does the car still has a netural safety switch. If so is this only a theft deterent?
I'm not sure if it was intended as a safety issue or theft. All I know
when the solenoid is removed you can take it out of park without
having to set foot on the brake.
