Hello group, I was hoping to get some advice. I am planning on using a LS2/LS6 engine in a custom chassis in a midengine configuration. The car weighs 2200lbs with a SBC so I "assume" it would weigh closer to 2000lbs with the aluminum engine.
I am torn between a brandnew LS2 and modifying it to $500hp +. With the light weight of the car I think that will be plenty. I do own a European Car shop and could build my own motor but don't have the inside knowledge of what works well together.
Also, working on customer cars all day every day I really don't feel like working on my own stuff like I used to. I would much prefer a turnkey motor w/ custom harness to fit my application.
I am sure that among you guys I can get some great advice on builders/ suppliers of such an engine. I can't afford a mistake by going the wrong way with this.
IMO, either engine would be a good platform. Here is what has been accomplished with my n/a 402ci LS2...and we're not done yet. As for harnesses, check with forum vendor, Racetronix.
500 horse should be easy with the LS2. We have built some nasty 416-418 with good idles. We just put one in a truck that went 480 to the wheels. That is with an automatic and 22 inch heavy wheels. So in a car with a 6 speed it would be over 500 to the wheels. I don't know if Racetronix builds complete wiring harnesses, but give them a try. If not painless or Howe can.
