I've been enjoying my 99 FRC for almost 2 weeks. It had 9K miles on the odometer when I bought it and had had a recent Mobil 1 oil/filter change. I had the original transmission fluid replaced with a synthetic. Is there anything else I should do to make sure the car is in top shape? As I alluded to in a previous post, its original owner who recently passed away only drove it to church on Sundays and probably never rev-ed it above 3K rpm.
Also, what is the most economical way to make this car accelerate as fast (or faster) than a stock Z06? It's a 100% stock now. So, I was thinking of a K&N air filter and a 4.10 axle ratio. Am I missing something?
Back to the axle ratio, is it safe to just replace a ring & pinion or should I invest in a new differential? Can someone recommend a trustworthy mechanic to complete the mod, not too far from the Washington DC area.
Thanks to this forum, I just made a giant leap forward in my C5 ownership experience: I figured how to fully open the center console! Thanks everyone
Finally, what do I have to do to automatically include my signature?
You might want to research the issue of synthetic transmission fluid in a 6 speed '99. Some say that it should not be used until later years. I have a '99 coupe and am debating which to use. I put the question up on the forum recently. Check out the answers. Good luck!

Been using full synthetic in my DD for several years now. No problems and it shifts a bit smoother too. First used Red Line and now using Amsoil.
The problem with synthetic transmission fluid in an A4 is that it is not Dextron. They make a "generic" fluid that is a universal fluid to get along (so-so) with all clutches. But your clutches were made for Dextron so it is not as good. Most tranny specialists recommend not using synthetic fluid in any automatic tranny for this reason.

Mine is a M6. The GM dealer did the transmission fluid change. I requested Mobil 1 but ended up going with what they recommended for a 99 FRC. The bottle said something like "GM synthetic manual transmission fluid". I think it was a Dextron III fluid.
There are several synthetic transmission fluids on the market that meet GM Dexron III specifications, including Mobil 1 ATF, and AMSOIL ATF, and both are suitable for use in either the M6 or A4.
