Red is for normal use.
Yellow had some "Deep Cycle" capability in it for those with GREATER than normal electrical draw due to Mods such as large stereo amps underbody lighting, etc...
Yellow is overkill by far if you haven't / aren't planning heavy electric mods. I have never heard of anyone with a Red Top having battery issues.
I personally love my Optima Red Top. Have had 0 issues since installation and cranks right over.

Yellow top is is a deep cycle battery. Deep Cycle is typically for Marine applications like battery operated trolling motors. Not necessary on a car.

Well call me Capt. Overkill but I installed a Yellowtop today. I do have some mods but I like having the extra oompf if it ever gets needed...like during a bad snowstorm (oh yeah...in a Vette).

In any case, the price was only $20 different so I went yellow.
