Like most things found here on the forum... these tires where the new wave WOW of tires a few years ago...they never impressed me.... you never hear a peep about them anymore... they are more narrow in their appearace especially in the rear C5 size... they are visually un-impressive to me, but this is just my opinion...Firestone claims once the tire gets zero pressure from a road hazard, the tire is junk..They are the bottom of the runflat heep, again in my opinion...
At least a start!!
I think when the prior owner got new rims..he must have bought these on it..They love to catch in the lines on the highway..especially in a corner or ramp.. ...And..I'm wondering how much better the car will feel if when these are wearing...and my wallets fatter..I'll go for the Goodyear's??
I got 43,000 miles from my first set of Goodyear EMT's.... about half way through their life, I insulated my car to help with tire noise...it made my car quiet enough to live with Runflat technology.,...I bought new set of EMT's ( Goodyear ).. soon as I put the new EMT's on the car , I noticed a drop in the tire noise, as I expected..... after a few hundred miles on the second set, I decided to buy new wheels... CCW 505's with 19" Michelin Pilot sports.... non runflat...
Now I had almost brand new EMT's on the car when I swapped them out for the Michelin Pilots..... I was so disappointed in the lack of noise reduction, over the New EMT's..... I expect the pilots will not become as noisy as the runflats when they are at 40,000 miles. I have found others to note the very same thing.....New tires are New tires...
The New second Generation GY runflat is suppose to be a much better tire..it will ultimately have two thread compounds... it will come in a touring compound... found on the new C6 coupe and Vert... and a performance compound for the Z06 C6.... My inside sources say the C6 with mag ride will have an option of tire compounds... either touring or performance...
I got 'em and like 'em. Ride, handling, and noise are good. As far as I'm concerned, like Kumho's, they're a great tire for the money. Firestone has now come out now with the Wide Oval version. As E-T points out tire technology is improving almost daily.
