Default What Is This Tread Size

I am going to bolt a bracket to the face of my AFR passenger side head for a oil catch can. What size bolt do I need. Don't want to take a chance of getting it wrong.

Thanks

3/8" w/ 14 tread pitch I called ARF, and they were nice and helpful.

You sure about that?

Good luck finding a 3/8"-14 screw.

What would be so hard about finding this type of screw?

Maybe because it is relly a bolt?

3/8" screws are commonly found in two thread pitches...coarse (NC), which is 3/8"-16, and fine (NF), which is 3/8"-24.

I could check some specialty fastener suppliers, but I'm pretty sure a 3/8"-14 screw would have to be custom made.

Ok, and bolt/screw...what is the difference?

A screw threads into a tapped hole.
A bolt is used with a nut.

They often are the same physical part, but that is the techinical difference between a screw and a bolt.

Perhasp the tech at AFR was mistaken. I'm not beyond the 16 thread pitch. People on the forum are using some kind of screw for the same application, I was hoping some would chime in. Thanks for your input, and if you know specificately which bolt to use I'm all ears. Will not have one custom made not unless that is necessary. I would'nt think they would tap that hole for a custom screw.

I know the (unused) tapped hole you are referring to, it's on the stock head as well. I don't know the thread size off hand, and if I were not out of town away from my car this week, I could probably ID it for you.

I'm sure the guy who gave you the thread info was wrong, which is why I cmmented as I did.
