Default 2nd & 3rd Gone from one bad shift?

What the heck happened to my tranny today? I think I missed a shift going into 2nd today and I got that horrible metal on metal sound. 2nd gear wouldn't even work after that. Worse part is I could almost feel something flooting around on the drive home. Sure enough I was doing a 1st to 3rd shift and I felt something catch going into 3rd and POW! the stick flew back. I pulled over and tried to move the stick but it was almosty locked into place (4th postion) I finally worked it free and tried 2nd gear again... just grinds... tried thrid... nothing there, feels like neutral. I also get some resistens (bad spelling sorry) coming out of 4th. What the heck happened? I'm going to put it apart Friday... hope it's not to bad. I've never had something happen like this before. (Out of 5 cars that are stick) ugh...

I feel for ya, Brother!

That really sucks. Ive never experienced that particular problem, but I can imagine how frustrating that must be.

I just got mine back after 3 weeks in the shop for a surprise rear differential rebuild. Luckily covered mostly by warranty. It really supersucked being without my favorite material posession for that long. Hang in there buddy!

Good luck with the repairs! Keep us posted.

Sounds like a shifter fork? Syncro's would make it hard going in, but normally wouldn't affect coming out. Hope its not too bad for ya. Planning any mods while your in there?

I would like to have a racing tranny all together. Anybody done this? Know of any good brands? I'd deffently be replacing the clutch and putting in a light weight flywheel.

Looks like rebuild time.

In my younger years, I had a habit of doing this. Hurst shifter fixed the problem. That's why I have the Hurst in C5. Short throw. No hang ups.

Sorry to hear.

I don’t know of there being an aftermarket trans to replace your T56. If you have the cash for bullet proof, G Force has the trans for you. I’m going to verture a guess that it’s broken/bent shift forks and linkage too. I rebuilt my T56 this past spring when the 3rd 4th syncro died – it was straight forward, nothing too complicated at all. I got my parts from G Force.

Close ratio will set yu back about 6,000 for a close ratio. You might have broken syncro but you looking at least $2,000 repair

I am having some problems myself.

Yeah, I have a Hurst shifter too. I always had B&M shifters and this was my first hurst... so I don't think it caused the problem. Yeah should be fun fixing her up! Thanks for the websites guys. They helped a buch. Let you know hoiw it goes!

After 1 year on this forum, I have read of more MN6 problems than I would have ever expected. Yes, I have an automatic, which I think has even more problems with durability, than the MN6, especially with mods. Really makes me wonder..(Led Zeppelin). We feel for ya bro.

Read this: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/....php?qstId=533

I had my MN6 rebuilt under warranty (using this TSB) for an issue almost 99% identical to yours.

Good luck!

Crap it's a mess in there! It's going to cost me over half the price of a brand new racing tranny so I believe I will be going that route now. So new tranny, short shifter, triple plate clutch and lightweight flywheel. Am I missing anything? You guys got any tips on where I can get a 3rd job?? HaHa!

Check the stop screws on your Hurst. In fact, just go ahead and remove them completely.

Might not be your problem, but it's a common one and easy enough to try before digging into the tranny.
