Default Trunk/gas release problem...

I posted this a couple weeks ago and never got a response. So...I am going to throw it out to all of you wonderful people one more time and see if there is a simple fix before I take it to the stealer. I am having problems with my trunk/gas hatches not opening when I press either the button in the car or when I use the fob. The trunk will eventually work, but i have to press it about 100 times from either the switch inside or on the fob. Thing with the fob is that I cannot be near the car when i press it. I have to be standing at least 10 feet away from the car. All the other buttons work on the Fob from close up as well as far away. Here is the real kicker...when I finally get the trunk open all the lights inside the car flicker really fast (like strobe lights) until I close it again. As for the gas hatch, it runs along the same lines. I will open eventually but I find myself at the gas station looking like an idiot with a nice car. There also is a wierd light problem when i press the release switch for the gas cap. When I press it and it doesn't open, just the rear trunk lights come on. It is a really wierd problem and I hope that you all can provide me with a simple solution. Thanks in advance and sorry it was so long.

Gotta love electrical problems............... Had my share of 'em but luckily not on C5.

Not sure I can help, but did you do anything lately with anything electrical? Take anything apart in the dash/console, which might have something to do with the problem?

If your onboard switches are having a problem, that probably eliminates the fob.

Good luck.

as a third option... put ur key into the keyslot on your door and turn it 3 times, trunk might release.

No I haven't done anything to the car in over 6 months. It worked then and now it doesn't.

Thanks for your input.

I have an FRC so I can just reach in the back and pull the manual release cord if i need to open it. I am hoping that someone has had the same problem and they fixed it or at least found of why it was doing it. Thanks for the idea tho.

I went to buy my 99 with 9,000 miles and the fuel door and hatch didn't work,i said if you fix these,i'll buy it.(i now have 52,500 trouble free miles).
It turned out to be the BCM (body controls module - computer).Since they did it for free,i don't know how much, but i would guess at least around $500.This is why i got an extended warrenty, for electrical stuff.
As said above, the coupe has the same hatch cable under the carpet by the left rear fender well.Good luck bro..
