I have a 2003 Z06 and my problem I need help with is my reverse solenoid lockout. This device mounted on the top of the tranny keeps you out of reverse when the engine is off and also above 3 mph. It is worked by direct battery voltage after the PCM tells it to. I can easily get reverse with the car off and I can shift past 5-6 to reverse which I discovered at 40 mph. The stick is like a limp hotdog past 5-6 position I checked connections to solenoid seem okay to change solenoid they say you have to lower the trans enough to unscrew the piece of garbage and change it. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks Richard
Mine was bad also in my 03 mn6 vette. Did the slide over into reverse rather than 5th a couple of times. I took it into the dealer. The vette mechanic had a socket that fit over the solenid and backed it out. He used the same socket and carefully tightened in the new one. He could only get about aneight of a turn on each click of the ratchet. Thank goodness they did not have to drop the transmission. If I remember right the manual tells them to drop the tranny. He, Jason, thought it the socket would work and it did. He is the one who had to fix the leak in my left side diff. also. He is really good. I have had no reverse problems with the new solenid.
My '03 Z06 is intermitten on the reverse lock out failing... meaning it seems to work about half the time. I've become very adept at 4th to 5th shift using great care not to slide into the reverse slot. My dealer could not get it to fail so did nothing.
On my 2000 vert, the lockout is positive. Meaning with the motor not running, the stick will NOT go into reverse without using force. On the Z06 this is not the case for some reason. This leads me to wonder if there was a design change on the later cars.
