I've seen many threads where people are doing tranny fluid changes with some simple pump from Harbor Freight. When I had my tranny fluid changed a few months ago at the dealer...they used something no less complicated than a freakin dialysis machine. It seemed to take awhile to push out the old and replace with the new.
Did they do a better job than I can do at home? Did they make the job unnecessarily complicated? Did they do esssentially the same thing I could do at home?
I did mine at home. The hardest part was lifting the car high enough to get under it. All you need is a small fluid pump you can buy at Wal-mart or any auto store. Just remove the fill plug and sensor and the drain plug and let drain. Replace drain plug and use the pump to get the fluid in the fill hole.
On Corvettes (C5's and C6's) with automatic transmissions the tranny is filled thru the drain plug and this is what the pump is for, if you drain the fluid thru the drain plug then you'll only get about half of the fluid out, the only way to get all of the old fluid is to have it flushed with a machine like you saw at the dealership.

They did a much better job than we can do at home. In the garage we are simply draing the pan and re-filling it. The dealer is actually flushing all the old fluid out and replacing it with new. They are doing a much more thorough procees. Bob

That's good to know. I'm a bit disappointed that I can't do the same at home. I don't recall exactly what they charged...but it wasn't cheap.
Stealership charged me almost $400 to do this transmission powerflush and fill with synthetic fluid on my wife's '03 TrailBlazer with only 35K miles...

Then you need to find a new place because my Chevy dealership charges me $90
