Does anyone have experience with a C-5 A-4 3:73 combination? I have had this gear with a tremec 5-spd in a C-3 and it was excellent. The Tremec has a .67 O/D. I believe the 4L60E has a .70 O/D. I have 3:15's now but don't drive long distances. Just occasional hot rodding around so. florida. I'm am also not sure how I will get this convertible to hook up even with ZO6 tires and wheel. The motor has all the bolt on performance stuff, i.e. long tube headers etc. Anyone with this set up please respond. Thanks---Robert
Hello Robert, welcome to the forum. I am running that set-up and love it. I am also running a Yank SS3600 T/C, street tires don't hold worth a damn. However hitting the track with some ET Streets well now it's a whole different ball game. Feel free to hit Moroso during any of the Corvette Challenge events, you will find all sorts of combinations from mild to wild, and everything in between. Click my signature for all the info. Bob
Even with a low STR converter like a SY3500 traction is sketchy on street tires, but not too bad. First gear is over pretty quick. You'll probably like the driveability improvement over the 3.15 a lot.
I love mine. I ran them with the stock TC for a year and they realy woke up the car. I now have a SS3600 TC and this combo. is great. I am running 305/35/18 Nitto DRs on the street and they hook up fine.

I have had 3.73's for 4 years now.
they worked out for me.
For mostly street driving the 3.73's are the best, if you 1/4 mile drag alot then the 3.42's will be better if you have some decent mods. I love the 3.73's I have, but when I hit the 1/4 I do run out of gear at the very end. Still manage 11.6 @123 though on street tires spinning.
I have a 3.73 behind my A4 with a stock TC. I also have the standard bolt-ons and put 353 HP to the rear wheels. The poor runflats never had a chance. Pressing the peddle to the floor is nothing more than a way to make the DIC read TRACTION SYS.
My car had the 3.73 when I bought it, and truth-be-told, I would rather it wasn't there. I spend a bit of time on the interstate (I put 4K on the clock in the first month, but that was abnormal even for me) and the fuel milage would be nice. But the thing pulls like mad without downshifting in any gear, so unless I am on a long trip, I don't really mind.
If this car was NOT my daily driver, I would think that a 3.73 is the least gear I would want. As a DD, I think that a 3.73 is the most gear I would want. So all-in-all I am happy enough with it not to spend money changing it.
lotsa tire spin, but still managable and drive very nice
even with the maggie.....I would say with lotsa hp (over 450) 342 gears would be a better choice. You would have better mileage and the power to pull them nicely
373 gears are quite fun and dont hurt mileage much below 70
