I was wondering the same thing. I have 01 with 30K on it. I would think you could go to 50K but I may replace mine in the spring with the Z06 shocks that everyone is talking about (just cannot decide on the 04 or 06 z06 shocks yet, which ever is the softest one
It would be very unusual for anything to be worn out in that amout of time... depending on how the vehicle is used...
Two years ago I was at Carlisle and saw a 2001 ZO-6 with under 10k miles on it. It had been damaged and needed to be repaired, but the price was under $20k and looked to need another $7k to put it back together. However, when you looked at the engine compartment and especially the rocker panels the mileage just didn't look right so I asked the seller what the history on the car was. It turns out the mileage was correct, but they had already removed the roll cage and it had in fact been used extensively as a track car. In fact the damage was done on the track at Sebring! Needless to say I walked away...

Any OEM shock is a piece of cheap junk. Your shocks are shot unless you have been driving on a pool table. You won't know until you dump them. I put Bilsteins in my Vette and they were great. Then I did my Dodge dooley at 50,000 and it was unbelievable. I then did my 04 Excursion with 9,000 miles on it and it was worth it.
While I'm always reluctant to disagree with John on anything related to Corvette suspensions, and I don't disagree with his comment regarding factory shocks in general, I do believe that today on high end performance vehicles the factory is doing a much better job installing quality shocks. Having said that, I would never be reluctant to replace a set of factory shocks with Bilsteins and I'm confident you would notice a difference.
If you're looking to spend some money to upgrade your suspension, I think you would be hard pressed to get better value for your money...
