I'm looking to upgrade my stock brakes, but I don't want to spend $5,000.00 for a whole new set up. I heard that the Z51 brake package from the C6 will fit the C5.
Something about a larger braket, larger brake pad, and still fit on the caliper. The braking is improved and just as good as a big brake package on the first hard stop...after that they will heat up.
Since I'm a street guy and don't plan on taking my Vette on a road cores I think this might be the way to go.
If anyone has any good ideas, input, pictures, or suggestions I would greatly apprecate it.
I was just looking at a set from Jennings Chevrolet on E-Bay. GM Drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads for front and back for $329.00. That seems pretty good. Of course they are not the bigger rotors like on the C6.
All you will get from the C6 Z51 is a larger rotor, the caliper and pads are the same. A larger rotor will not increase stopping distances on the street, it even adds weight, a larger rotor can absorb more heat which is good for racing. Unfortunately the C6 Z51 rotors have holes in them, which is bad. Go to www.stoptech.com and read their info papers. They talk about the truths of big brake kits and what they do for you. Bottom line: if your stock brakes can lock up the tires, and yours can, then you have enough brake.
