I had the recall mods done on my 2000 A4 in January, but recently it got the SERVICE COLUMN LOCK message and had to be towed to the dealer who ended up charging me $525 for a new column lock motor - yes, even though my column no longer locks! So I want to disconnect the column lock side of the GM K harness (which would make it function more like a CLB), but I'm a little concerned about the 2000 being different from any other year. When I look at the wiring diagrams including in the column lock recall bulletin, I see that there are two extra relays for the column lock in the 2000 (both the manual and the automatic) when compared to all the other years. So please tell me, does anyone have a 2000 automatic that is using a CLB successfully? For how long? Does anyone have a 2000 that has the GM K harness installed without the column lock side connected? Thanks.
I have an A4 2000 also. I've had both versions of the k harness done at the dealer. There is one with a black relay and one with a white relay. Both relays fail, particularly the white one which is the most recent. My tech was told by gm tech assistance to put my car back to original without any harness... Lock plate is in place so column will not lock regardless. The only problem I could have would be if the actuator goes bad. I may do the clb sometime to bypass the actuator entirely. GM knows that they do not have a k harness that is reliable and no good relay to date.... The defective relays in the k harnesses are the reason for getting the pull key msg. Since my wiring was put back to original I have had no messages......... What a zoo!! This pull key deal will probably be discussed for generations to come

Wow, I just installed a K harness on my 97 about a month ago and lastnight it failed. Had the damn service column lock. I just unplugged the K harness and reconnected everything back to stock and it worked. I will be fine unless the lock motor fails. Then I'm screwed.
