I have a 99 Coupe with Z51 set up The rear shocks are squaking and I want to replace them
.
The question is which one is the correct one. Heavy duty or sport.
I don't race the car at all just cruise it around.
Ummmm. Never heard of a squeaky shock before.... I would make sure you're spot-on the issue before you drop 300 bucks or more on new shocks. Is it cold outside where you live? An extremely common cause of squeaking over bumps in the C5's (either suspension option) is the swaybar bushings. Swing down both swaybars and apply some silicone grease to the bushings. I'll bet you the noise goes away after you do that.
I agree with servohead 100%. I had sqeaking front and rear swaybar bushings. Very common on the C5 cars. I thought it was the shock absorbers at first. There are two bushings on the front and two on the rear swaybars. Each bushing has 2 bolts. Loosen bolts slide bushing to the side and coat with silicone grease. Its an easy job. I had Firestone do mine while I stood there and watched. It took the guy 15 minutes total for the front and back. Charged me $35.00. You can do it yourself no problem. I just felt lazy that day.

On a '99 you're due for new shocks anyway. The stockers were inadequate from the day they were installed and worse now they are 6+ years old. Bilstein sports are the way to go and they have a lifetime warranty to boot. I love my car now that the floating sensation is gone.
The squeaking however, is probably the sway bar bushings. Squirt some synthetic based lube on the bars, under the bushings and the squeak will disappear.
