I am going to change my diff fluid I saw a fill plug on top which looked like it takes a hex socket. What size is this socket and is it the same for the drain plug?? Thanks

I bought a 3/8" allen head socket from Sears to do the job.
Damn Screw99. I just bought a 3/8" hex end socket at Pep Boys. Did not even use my common sense on using the 3/8 extention. Dope... Oh well it was only 3.99

The differential case's fill and drain plugs are not HEX, they are square and the end of a 3/8" ratchet extension will work fine.
The transmission, which is located directly in front of and attached to the differential case, has drain and fill plugs also. They are 3/8" hex/allen heads.
If you are removing the plug that has a hex head you will be draining the transmission fluid. Check your owner's manual, there is a diagram and instructions for changing the differential fluid.
Not to insult anyone's intelligence, remember that these units are separate and use VERY different fluids.

David426,
On my '98, the 3/8" hex/allen head is for the differential plugs. The transmission plugs have square heads that a 3/8" extension will fit nicely.
So, if you are removing a plug with a square head, you may be draining the transmission and not the differential.
