I am hearing a noise that sounds like I have low fulid in the rear end. This is according to the service manuals.
I only hear it after the car is at normal temp. and making turns.
This is the wierd part. I just changed my differential fluid about three months ago. Had a friend thats and old GM mechanic help me do it.
Do you think I need to change it again ? I used what GM recommends with the additive.
This is really bugging me, since I did not have a problem until I changed the fluid.
Well I was afraid of that.
What is the best way to idenify which side to replace.
Also I am not a mechanic, (as you can tell ) but can do most jobs myself.
Is this something I can do or do I need to take it to a shop ?
I am sure it will take some special tools that I don't have.
Did you put the GM dif fluid additive in there? It stops the chatter, if you don't but in it the rear will sound horrible. It's purple and smells like gapes if you get it from GM. Just grab a tube, pull the fill plug on the dif, and squirt 1/3 or so of the bottle in 4 oz. or so. Then go do a few figure 8 turns to get it all mixed in.
to see which side it is for a wheel bearing just jerk the car hard to a side and this will take the load off the bearing adn the side that stops making the noise when unloaded is the side that you need to replace.
