Check out the Thunder Racing CheatR also. It's supposedly emissions friendly and they claim big increases.

Thay have a CheatR head/cam combo that produces 400 rwhp with stock exhaust manifolds.

To start with the biggest cam you can go with is a 224/224 on a 114 LSA if you want to pass smog. With regard to cops and it being loud you don't have to worry about that. Unless your running headers with a free flowing muffler your sound will chop but not be that much louder. The two cams listed that will pass smog arn't worth doing. If your going to do this make it worth your wild and push the edge with a 224-228/581-581/114+2. With a tight tune you can pass smog and it will yeild the gains your looking for.

Not to hijack the thread, but I live in Cali as well and need a smog friendly cam. I love the way the MTI X1 cam sounds 230/227 591/571 112 LSA. Do you think that cam can pass the sniffer or is that going to big? Can a 112LSA on any size cam pass smog in CA? Thank you.

Your cam won't pass no matter what you do or try. 114 or higher will be what you need.

Thank you for the info. I want the car to sound like it has a cam in it and I want it loud. I know I need to get out of California, but with a 114 LSA cam in mind what size do you recommend for lift and duration with it still being able to pass smog? Any good cam choices you can recommend for me. Thank You.

Many people in CA get a 220-224/581-581/114+4. It should get you close to 400HP and will pass the sniffer. Keep in mind that you will need a tune. The thing to keep in mind is your LSA needs to be 114 or higher and don't exceed 224-224.

Well, we don't have the smpg issues here in Minnesota, but I had the XR269HR installed last winter and love it. It runs absolutely super, gives a very strong low end and midrange, and is still making power at 6300 rpm. It's a he!! of a cam stoplight to stoplight and on the freeway. I would not switch. I'm running Dynatech longtubes, highflow cats, X-pipe and GHL Bullets, among other things, with it, and the car sounds fantastic...lope and rumble. You will need a dynotune with it, however. Do a search over in LS1Tech, Several people over there are running this cam. It's great for a DD.

Are you planning to add headers. If so, it's possible to pass with a 224-228 on 114.

Take care and happy holidays,

Charlie

Default Passing Smog

Andy built my engine(see sig below) and I passed smog. The tune on my car is right on the button.Iwould go with Charlies recommendation.I would rather stay on the"will" pass smog inspection, then maybe it will pass. Then its a pain if your car won't pass the inspection. You may give up a little performance, but in the long run it will be worth it.

I'm selling my Comp Cam 220/220 .564/.564 114 cam for $200 shipped, which will pass CA emissions testing and give you a nice increase in horsepower and torque while maintaining a stock-like idle.
