Default Power shifting?

I recently bought a 02 Auto. Is power shifting Bad? Or is that how you have to drive the car when you want a quick launch. Also, at what RPM should you be shifting?

Thank you,
Scott

Powershifting is generally related to manual transmissions. Powershifting is generally what is known as "throttle down" shifting a stick. You don't lift your foot while simultaneously blipping the clutch and upshifting the transmission.

I am assuming you mean manually shifting the automatic transmission. It will not per say "hurt" the transmission. I would however question your ability to shift it better than the computer can.

I would not race the car in OD, but D and let it shift. If you have the ability to tune the trans, you should be able to set it up to shift like you want. If you don't manually shifting through the gears may net you better times.

The trans should be generally setup to take good advantage of the torque of the engine.. but with a stock setup, this is not likely. You are probably dealing with a 2.73 Rear end as well. You will probably manually shift it to keep in a lower gear longer which may net you better ET's...

If you plan on racing anything with a 4L60E in it, plan on putting some money into it for anything more that a trip or two to the strip per year. Drag racing is pretty hard on a stock trans and convertor.

Hope that helps.

..........and if you do have a 6th speed and miss that shift it very well may mean good-by valve stem/stems as well as other possible damage and big $$$. Not worth taking the risk even with the Hurst or other aftermarket shifters. I know some guys will say I never miss a shift well yeah sure!

The rev limiter will keep it from overspinning if you miss a shift in a 6spd. The only danger comes from dropping it in the wrong gear at high RPM and mechanically over revving the motor.
