All the thermostat will do is determine the min operating temperature for your car. The 160 Stat just begins opening at that point and probably won't be fully open until 175 or so. So once you warm up past 160, that's your absolute min temp. At anything other than highway speeds on a cool or cold day, it will run the same temps it does now, unless you get your fan activation temps edited. Radiator capacity and fan temps will determine the max temp for your car. Without editing, in stop-n-go traffic, you will still be running around 225. At highway speeds, you may run in the high 170s or 180s.

How early could I get my fans to come on at? I want to be able to run my car at the lowest possible temperatures. How low do you think I could get it running with an aluminium radiator, 160 temp thermo, fan edit?

Using even a 170 deg stat would not normally cause this error unless its faulty and sticking open

It an easy install. Plan on changing your anti-freeze cause you will loose most of it! Just unbolt the thermostat housing, pop out the old OEM stat and pop in the aftermarket stat. Refill it and your off to the races!
