Looking at a yanks s3000.Would there be any benefit with this converter over stock. Please explain don't much about what they do.I have intake, kooks, and soon 224/224.563/114 cam.Is it really worth it i will never see the track just a little fun on the street.
Short answer, TC allow the engine to rev up closer to the power peak. Think of it as dropping the clutch at the stall speed, althought the hit is not a sharp. Basically, your making more power at 3000 than at 1600. I went to a 2800 and 3.42's and picked up 4 tenths. As always YMMV. Jeff
In addition, most aftermarket converters give higher torque multiplication factors than the stock converter. Also, dependent on brand, and model within that brand, the aftermarket may weigh less, be more efficient, and provide significant shift extension. Take a look at the Yank and Fuddle websites...much information to be had there.

If you will never see the track and are happy with the way the car feels (both off the line and while moving), then I would save the money for heads.
I have a heads/cam/longtubes, etc., car and recently purchased a Yank SS3200 which will be going in next spring. My car also never sees the track, but I wanted what the SS3200 professes to add to a car. Before you order, talk to Yank. The SS series is a pretty cool design. Also, spend some time over on LS1Tech in Automatic Transmissions. There's a ton of info over there on stall converters.
