Default Headlight Adjustment Tool?

I recently did the Silver Star 9006 - 9005 headlight mod and after I completed the work I noticed the passenger side headlight seems to be just a bit low. I found the adjustment bits, but I can't get them to turn(by hand). Before I go grabbing a set of plyers and mess up, is there some sort of trick or special tool needed to get the adjusters to move?

Thanks in advance for any help! Feel free to PM

I also have to adjust my lights as one of them is too low. According to the service manual, there's nothing special. Just remove the covers, find the two screws, and turn them. How do you like the Silverstars, btw? I was thinking about going with PIAAs.

You can either use a Torx 15, or a 6point socket that fits over the adjustment screw. While adjusting mine with the torx, it stripped the screw, so be careful, they seem like soft metal.

Should put the Silverstar 9005 in the low beam side...1700 lumens compared to 1000 lumens for the 9006 (If I remember right). Just takes a couple minutes work to make them fit. Doesn't blind oncoming drivers because they are still aimed in the low position.

What he said

Not a bad upgrade if you are changing to Silverstars any way. I am waiting for the price of NotMee's new HID kit to come down a bit and may pull the trigger on that set up

Thanks for the heads up!

I installed NotMee's Vette-HID lights last weekend, I adjusted my lights with a 6 point socket, a 12 point would probably work a little better.

Hit the adjusting bolt with some penetrating oil and let it soak for awhile.
they tend to get wet and corroded and then seize up

Headlamp Opening Door Adjustment

Remove the headlamp opening door. Refer to Headlamp Opening Door Replacement .
For horizontal adjustment:
Loosen the headlamp intermediate bracket to headlamp assembly screws (1).
Adjust the position of the headlamp intermediate bracket (3) as required and retighten the retaining screws (1).

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Tighten
Tighten the headlamp intermediate bracket screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

For vertical adjustment: Tighten (to lower) or loosen (to raise) the vertical adjusting screws (2) as needed.
For headlamp opening door stop position adjustment, if necessary: Tighten or loosen the door stop adjustment screw as needed.
Install the headlamp opening door. Refer to Headlamp Opening Door Replacement .
Inspect the fit of the headlamp opening door to the hood, the fender and the front fascia.
If the fit of the headlamp opening door is unsatisfactory, repeat steps 2 through 7.

I put the PIAA 9005's in the low beam socket the other day, I've really liked them so far, great improvement over stock. I had Silverstars in my camaro but can't really compare the two like that. I got my PIAA's on Ebay for $41, so not much more than the Silverstars and people claim they are a lot brighter. After cutting off the inside notches, I had to sand down the three outside pieces so they would fit. I fought with it forever only getting in two at a time but after sanding them to fit, got the light snug. Also remember to replace the O-ring with a thicker one so it won't be loose.

Man, my service manual doesn't even have all this! (Well, at least I didn't find it anywhere.)
