Default Another silly fob question

I know the key fobs for a 2000 are different than those of earlier & later C5's, but I have a question and an issue I hope you can clear up for me. Is one fob specific to memory setting 1 and the other for memory setting 2?
When we bought the car we set both memory settings with just one fob. Both memory settings worked for about a week, then it "lost" memory 2. When we try to reset, it only moves the seat forward about one inch, rather than where it needs to be for my 5' 2" wife.

I believe you can only have one memory setting per remote.
You can program up to three remotes per vehicle.
I would suggest you purchase a second remote and then you both would have a remote with your own specific settings.

Each vehicle can have up to three remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitters (fobs) programmed or matched to its memory, but each remote can only be used to recall memory settings for one driver. The RKE transmitters correspond to the order in which they were programmed/matched to the vehicle's memory; i.e., the first transmitter programmed will correspond to driver 1 memory, the second programmed to driver 2 memory and the third to driver 3 memory, regardless of any number that may appear on the back of the transmitter. You owner's manual should cover this in more detail under Matching Transmitters to your Vehicle or Fob Training. In addition you may want to review those sections that cover the memory option and on Resynchronizing Your Transmitter. If you do not have an owner's manual, you can get free on-line access to a digital copy of the owner's manual for you specific model year by going to https://www.mygmlink.com/ and registering. Registration is also free.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Everytime you change something in the cars memory like changing the seats position you have to reset the key fob again with the 1or 2 buttons on the dash board this drives me crazy sometimes because when i first got the car could not figure out why setting did not stay when i programed them.Crazy cars have minds of their own sometimes

I had already registered, so went to the site and re-read the section regarding Memory. It is somewhat vague, but I did find where it says "Drivers 1, 2, and 3 correspond to the order in which your remote keyless entry transmitters were programmed." This would lead me to believe that each fob (we do have two) controls a particular memory setting. Odd that both settings worked for the first week after we set both with one fob however. I was under the impression that only `01-`04 fobs were particular to driver 1 or 2. Our 2000 fobs do not have numbers on the back to indicate driver number.
Thanks for your responses. I will try to re-set Memory 2 with the second fob.

the '02 fobs were numbered 1 and 2; i believe this started in '01; and yes they can be programmed differently to each fob(never had a 2000, so i'm not sure about your car)

I know this sounds like the easy way out but in almost 6 years on this board I know when you have tried everything and it still won't work the only solution is to buy a new one. 99.9% of the time it solves the problem and especially in your case if that is the original remote
