hey guys one more question for ya. i have a 2000 c5 coupe with 71,000 that runs great, but at 74 mph and higher i get a noticable steering wheel shake. i took it to the dealership monday nd they said "we recommend a 4 wheel thrust aligment". does this sound right to you guys n' gals?
comfortracing,
I take mine to Lee's tire off Little Creek Rd. an Azela Garden Rd. Owner is a vette man. They have a real good alignment guy. Stay away from the dealership to many bad experinces.
If you feel the shaking in the steering wheel it is usually a front wheel out of balance, if you feel the shaking in the seat of your pants via the seat then it is a rear wheel out of balance. You can look at your tires and see if one or the other edge is worn and that will tell you if you are out of alignment. An aligment will make it handle better, roll better, actually get better mpg, and obviously save your tires.

74 mph, the classic speed for a dynamic wheel balance problem to show up, not wheel alignment!!

Definitely have your tires rebalanced, and, your wheels checked for out of roundness. Sometimes very slight dents and flat spots in wheels caused by impact cannot be ascertained until traveling at highway speeds. Therefore, do have the entire wheel inspected for "trueness". Good luck to you.
I got my wheels balenced and rotated on my yukon for $35, And an allignment for $80. Not a bad investment. Definately took care of the steering wheel shake, but i still had a shake at around 75mph, Think the tires were just cheap. Oh well, not my problem anymore, traded it on my vette
wow, i cant believe all the good advice on this website....you guys are great! yeah, im gonna take her in next week and have the balance and alignment done. whats the use of havig a vette if you cant go over 74
