i have a 97 and i know there isnt as much that can be done as the 98 and up models.I have a b&b exhaust and im looking to get the vararam air and the carbon fiber power duct with coupler hose.what other good mods are there for the 97 that i wont have to sell my house to get? is the hypertech worth getting? all feedback is welcome and appreciated.
408 CI. You won't have to sell the house. maybe your other car.
My other 97 has B&B exhaust,LG long tubes, twin air intake, and corbine fiber air duct. The car puts down 335rwhp. This was before and after a tune installed buy a very repratable tuner.
Iwas expecting somewhere around 360 to 370, and was disapointed. Bought another 97 w/ 500 rwhp, and am selling first car.
I'd guess the next step for you would be to start w/ a dyno run, then install longtubes. Good luck.

The vararam would be a good mod. The Fiber power duct is ok, mostly for looks! Now that your letting more air in ,you need to let more air out. I would Call East Coast Supercharging in NJ. and ask them if they have any used vararams & power ducts, since they remove these to install their superchargers. Then I would get a set of long tube headers (LG or Koons) and then have the car tuned by ECS for the new air flow. I would also put 3:42 gears and stall convertor (if you are A4) those mods will give you a good thrill for awhile!

Why do you say theres not as much that can be done to a 97? All the usual mods apply. Am I missing something?
Start with headers and intake. How about an LS6 intake manifold? Ported throttle body, cam, port the heads, underdrive pulley, torque converter. See signature.

You can do the same thing from 1997-2004....
Like putting in a 417 stroker.............it looks stock, so it must be
Check out my Website, some info on there.
IMOEE........A good set of Long Tubes, VARARAM, CAM tune, catback, gear
Then intake, cam, heads..........

You eventually need to upgrade the heads and intake. Help it breath with that and a good set of headers. Maybe a cam while your at it. The Hypertech is not really much of a tuner.

I have a 97 - I have done so far: LS6 intake manifold (very nice mod for the $$) Haltech Stinger intake, Z06 catback, and currently have B&B shorty headers (about to get my new Kooks LT's installed) I have an issue with the crank pulley wabbling, so I am going with an underdrive unit from ASP - while I am in there (or the speed shop is) I am considering a mild cam and springs...
These mods should give me about stock Z06 power and still remain daily driver capable...
Intake and headers will be the best place to start......then follow it with a cam upgrade.....and then maybe later add some ported heads......and then add.......
Well as you can see it's a never ending addiction.
Most bolt on mods are nearly worthless for performance on a nearly stock engine. Cat back, power duct, smooth coupler, high flow MAF, ported TB, high flow cats. All these together would be lucky to get you 10-15 HP and for the money you spend on them you could get a cam or a set of heads.
Only bolt ons worth the money are long tube headers, vararam, high stall TC, gears, and a tune.
